I’ve been carrying around an iPod Touch (Gen. 2) for a year or so, so I was already aware of the power of the “app” network, but I never would have guessed that the iPhone was so much more capable than the Touch. The ability to access the internet from anywhere is incredible in itself but that’s only one of the reasons that I’ll never be without this type of device again.

Communication device, GPS, compass, notebook, game console, entertainment center, library, reference library, timepiece, newspaper, instructor…

I’m sure there are functions I have yet to discover with the iPhone, but so far, my favorite use for the device is as a GPS. I was able to replace the Garmin I used for auto navigation with a wide selection of apps, and hiking with the iPhone is like nothing I’ve encountered before. Yesterday I was able to wander through some unknown trails in the forest near my house and virtually see myself from space via Google maps’ satellite view!

Is it just me or is the iPhone the coolest thing to come along in our lifetimes?
